Collectopedia

Record enough collectables in your Collectopedia and you may be given a reward. The world of Xenoblade Chronicles contains all sorts of collectables, from items needed to clear quests to gifts used to deepen affinity with characters. Collectables you've found in each area are recorded in your Collectopedia. The Collectopedia also records the status of any collectables you haven't found yet.

Achievements

Achievements are a record of how deep you have penetrated into the game world. Achievements are automatically acquired when certain conditions are met.
Achievements are often acquired in the strangest of places, so don't hesitate to explore widely and investigate every possibility the game throws up.

Gems: Crafting from Ether Crystals

As you progress through the story, you'll become able to craft ether crystals to produce precious stones known as gems. This process is called gem crafting.
Inserting gems into slots in pieces of equipment will give your equipment special effects.
Gem crafting is always done with two party members. Choose carefully, because the affinity between them will have an effect on the gem that's created.

Characters acquire abilities, called skills, that match their individual personality. Each character has a number of possible personality traits, and you have the choice of which to develop in order to improve their abilities.
As you proceed through the story and develop deeper affinity between characters, they will grow even stronger by sharing one another's skills.

As your characters' levels increase, they will gradually learn a variety of Arts (battle actions).
There is a limit to the number of Arts that you can use in battle, so try to think of Arts combinations that will allow you to make the best use of your preferred Arts.
It's important to come up with a selection of Arts that suits your own battle style.

Getting hold of better weapons and armor lets you take on more powerful monsters.
Every weapon and piece of armor has a unique look, so you're able to customize your character's appearance as well. Changes to your character's equipped weapons will be fully reflected not only in the field and during battles, but also during story event sequences.

Useful Tools

Xenoblade Chronicles contains many features to make traversing such a huge area as effortless as possible.
These features include: A map that lets you skip to locations you've visited before ('Landmarks') simply by selecting them; an arrow that indicates the direction of your next destination; and a clock that lets you change the in-game time. These features all help make your playing experience more enjoyable.

The game world of Xenoblade Chronicles not only spreads far and wide, there are also times when you'll need to look above and below you.
Through the eyes of your character, you will need to pay attention to areas of different height as you run and jump around the game world. Sometimes these undulations can be used to your advantage, but falling from high places can also inflict damage on your character.

Your adventure takes place atop the corpses of two enormous titans.
Pick a point far in the distance and you'll be able to travel there seamlessly.* There's plenty to discover in locations other than your main destinations, so enjoy exploring every nook and cranny of the game world.
* Travelling from the shin area to the knee area requires some loading time.

Once certain conditions are met - your affinity towards a character reaches a certain level, for example - you will be able to go to a special location for a conversation with other characters.
This gives you the opportunity to deepen your understanding of the characters' relationships.

 Quests

As you journey through the game world, you may receive Quests from the people you encounter.
By completing these Quests and solving people's problems, you can receive rewards and deepen your affinity with those people. Talking to people and taking on their Quests will reveal the relationships between them in all their complexity. There are also some subplots of the story than can only be seen by taking on Quests.
You can proceed through the main story without having to clear Quests, however.

Unique Features

Characters and Weapons

Each character can equip different types of weapons. Some excel at close combat whereas others specialize in long-range attacks. You will need different battle tactics for each character depending on their equipment and personality. The player can change which character they control at any time using the menu. (The player-controlled character cannot be changed during battles.)


The Monado's Powers

The Monado is a weapon imbued with special powers that set it apart from other weapons in the game. As Shulk gradually becomes aware of its power, powerful moves with special effects, known as Monado Arts, become available for you to use.


Battling Mechon

Mechon's tough armor means they are impervious to damage unless a special attack that harnesses the Monado's power is used. The character who wields the Monado releases its power, sharing it with members of the party. This enables all party members' attacks to cause damage to Mechon.

Battling Unique Monsters

Some of the monsters you'll encounter while travelling around the game world are unique monsters with individual names. Unique monsters drop items that are more valuable than those dropped by ordinary monsters when defeated. You'll encounter powerful unique monsters right from the beginning of the story. Don't take them on until you are ready. Bide your time and build up your powers before challenging them.

A member of the Colony 9 Defence Force and Shulk's childhood friend. Optimistic and hard-working, though sometimes hot-headed and overly emotional.

A medic in the Colony 6 Defence Force. A no-nonsense woman with a real inner fortitude, she is an excellent sharpshooter.
